NJW’s Business Analyst Kate Whitaker is a glutton for punishment.
Hot off the heels of completing the Tough Mudder in July, Kate has recently just competed in The Great North Run with her partner Pete!
Kate and Pete were raising money for the very charitable cause of Cancer Research UK and had a modest aim of £250, which they smashed, hitting 124% of their target!
Kate said: “Everyone has been affected by cancer in some way, and I lost one of the most important people in my life to it. We wanted to take the opportunity to raise some money, every little helps, so on Sunday 9th September I did my first ever half marathon, The Great North Run! The route starts in Newcastle city centre and finishes in South Shields – a stretch of the beautiful North East Coast (yes, I am biased being born and raised in County Durham).
A summer of injury meant my longest training run was 8 miles, so after completing 13.1 I was in a lot of pain! But I did it and that was thanks to the fabulous support on the route and from my friends and colleagues at NJW who were generous to donate to my chosen Charity: Cancer Research UK. It made all the pain worthwhile! I’m considering doing the Gothenburg half marathon next May… so it can’t have been that bad… can it?!”
All of us at NJW want to say congratulations to Kate on such a mammoth task!
